season of the bit is a collaborative
DJ/Performance Act featuring video game and chip tunes from the 70's and 80's.
The proliferation of home video gaming devices in the 1980s gave rise to a new
generation of music listener. Today these listeners are creating new outlets for creative
expression. Bit-hop, chiptune, nerdcore, & 8-bit are some of the movements that have
arisen from this musical genre inspired by and created on home video gaming devices
from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s.
The low-resolution, 8-bit synthesizer in early video game systems has supplanted the
rich, full spectrum sounds of the previous generation’s commercial HiFi. Noisy
square waves induce the adrenalin rush of beating a high score or finding a secret
level.
season of the bit hopes to expose that the influences of our past are active in our future.
